Is Corduroy still in trend ?

In the era of ripped jeans and colourful chinos, spotting someone wearing a corduroy is as rear as spotting a shooting star. Denims these days are tough, elastic and comfy, this often prevents the young generation from buying a corduroy. It actually depends on the location too. I was reading an article on a British website and it said how one can stand out by wearing a corduroy this year. Well, it may be a fashion statement in Britain but in Bengaluru I rarely spot anyone wearing a corduroy.

I tried to find royalty free image of corduroy and couldn’t find any decent one. So the source of the image used in this post is onshopdeal.com

If you happen to belong to the latest generation and live in a location where corduroy aren’t so famous then let me explain what corduroy is. Corduroy is a fabric and its characteristic feature is straight vertical cords a.k.a. ribs. The ribs are manufactured during the production process (more of it on Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corduroy ).

Moving on to the question whether it’s in trend, the answer is no (especially in India). However people do wear it. It is like spotting a Contessa Classic or Ambassador in a sea of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Here, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai refers to denims and other fast moving fabrics.

If you want to make a fashion statement and stand out from the crowd then Corduroy is a worthy purchase. And all those who call themselves an ‘Old School’ chap on their Tinder bio should definitely have one pic sporting a corduroy.

Corduroy doesn’t confine itself to shirts and pants. You do get suits, hats etc. that are made of corduroy.

Well, that’s it for this post. See you next time with a different one. Byeee 🙂
